Charles Victor Thompson, a Texas man, had previously escaped authorities’ custody while on death row. The escape led to a three-day manhunt before he was captured and executed by the state, making him the first person to be put to death in the United States this year.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has postponed the executions of three more inmates on death row, including the man convicted of killing a 12-year-old boy in Northeast Ohio more than four decades ago.
Ohio Governor DeWine announced in a news release on Friday, January 30, that several inmate executions have been delayed. DeWine issued the execution reprieves for Gerald Hand, Danny Lee Hill, and Cleveland R. Jackson. Hill was convicted of murdering 12-year-old Raymond Fife of Warren in 1985 and was sentenced to death.
