A small part of Florida is the Snowy State for the second year in a row. Snow briefly covered the grass and rooftops in parts of the western Florida Panhandle on Sunday morning as just enough frigid air rushed in behind a cold front to turn the last rain showers into snowflakes in the Sunshine State.
Snow could mix in with cold rain starting later Sunday morning and lasting through the early evening. Some icy spots could develop on the roads late Sunday into early Monday, prompting a WRAL Weather Alert Day.
Winter weather advisories have been updated to include a piece of the far northern portion of Florida and remain for much of central Georgia. Some advisories across central Georgia have been updated to winter storm warnings, where 1-3 inches of snowfall is possible.
Slick spots on roads and sidewalks are possible north and west of the Beltway this morning; mainly grassy accumulation is likely from D.C. and I-95 to the east.
Snow was observed as far South as Florida as temperatures plummeted. New York City could get up to four inches of snow and up to six inches is possible in Boston.
Let’s call Saturday the appetizer. After the city saw roughly an inch of snow to start the weekend, a second event could bring double the amount of snow on Sunday — and the action has already started.
