Shots were fired near a vigil Wednesday night for the two 14-year-old boys killed in a shooting earlier this week, according to Merced police. The vigil was being held near the makeshift memorials outside the Merced Urology Medical Group building on East 13th Street.

A 32-year-old Planada man was arrested Friday on gun charges after an investigation into a shooting led to him, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said. The investigation was for a shooting that took place Jan. 8 in Planada. Nobody was injured.

Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting around 7:00 p.m. near the Merced Behavioral Health Center on East 13th Street. Upon arrival, officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
