Granite or Pegmatite? Picked from a field site, this coarse-grained rock shows pink feldspar crystals with shiny flakes of mica, classic features of a granitic material. The pink hue is from potassium feldspar (microcline/orthoclase), while the sparkle comes from muscovite and biotite. Such rocks form from slow cooling of magma deep in the crust, often marking continental crustal zones that may host rare metals or gem minerals in pegmatitic varieties.
