Benkei Legends
At Kiyomizu-dera (清水寺) temple in Kyoto, there’s a legend about Benkei — the warrior monk who fought 300 men alone with a massive naginata (staff). Inside the temple stands his 96-kg iron staff. Legend says: whoever can lift it will prosper and become a protector of the temple. Every day tens of thousands visit. Only a few try. And only a handful have ever lifted it. Some legends aren’t read. They’re lived. It was my pleasure to visit this temple… and test myself against the legend of Benkei. ⛩️�
