On August 25th, 2019, CSX Transportation delivered locomotive no. 1100 to Kentucky Steam at Ravenna Yard. 1100, former L&N no. 5000, is an EMD SW1500 type diesel-electric locomotive that once served the Louisville & Nashville Railroad in Ravenna sorting coal trains around the yard in the 1970s. The donated locomotive will allow the non-profit the ability to switch out historic rail equipment on the Heritage Center's property. The CSX fleet of heritage locomotives is continuing to grow with the introduction of CSX 1871 painted in a custom design honoring the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (ACL). First appearing in 1871, the ACL was officially incorporated in 1900 and extended from Georgia to Richmond, Virginia, and later into Florida. The ACL merged with the Seaboard Air Line Railroad in 1967 to form the Seaboard Coast Line, which later became part of CSX. CSX 1871 will carry the ACL colors across our 20,000-mile networ

The C&EI Railroad, founded in 1877, played a critical role connecting Chicago with southern Illinois, St. Louis, Mo., and Evansville, Ind., during the expansive growth of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
