Fastening the ribs on the St. Lawrence river skiff. I screw the ribs to the bottom board because I’m pretty sure that nails would pull out of the bottom board over time. A flathead bronze screw would be so much nicer looking here but I feel like that would compromise the strength of the rib more and also create a funnel for moisture to work its way down into the rib, so instead I’m using a truss head screw and filling the hole with varnish to deflect water. .
